Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Liverpool’s interest in Ibrahima Konate after securing a place in the top four.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Konate for quite some time now, but it has been reported that there could have been some bumps in the road when it came to finalising the deal.
However, with Liverpool surging into a top four spot in the final weeks of the season, Romano says that the Reds are now prepared to complete the deal for Konate.
“Also talking about Premier League clubs, for Liverpool it was really important to get into the Champions League. Also because of the financial situation, Jurgen Klopp was always talking about this it’s important to understand that for top clubs getting into the Champions League is always important, not just because you’re a top club and you have to be in the Champions League, but also financially it is really, really key,” Romano said.
“That’s why Liverpool will now be prepared to complete the deal for Ibrahima Konate, I expect him to be the first signing for Liverpool in the summer.”

This is why qualifying for the Champions League is always so important.
Yes, playing in the top competition is what every club aspires to, but financially it allows you to have a lot more lee-way.
Liverpool initially wanted to haggle over Konate’s fee, but now it seems as though they’re ready to push through a deal.
Whether or not the Frenchman is a success at Anfield remains to be seen, but it appears as though it’s just a matter of time before he signs.
