The young midfielder wants to repay Brendan Rodgers’ faith after appearing against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Liverpool youngster Jordan Rossiter says the club will give the Europa League a good go this season.
The Reds kick off their European campaign against Bordeaux on Thursday, as they compete in the tournament for the second year running.
They have often used their fringe players in the competition, with manager Brendan Rodgers prioritising the Premier League. That has led many to suggest that they regard the continental campaign as secondary to their domestic efforts.
The main aim is to reach the Champions League, but Rossiter says they will give the Europa League a good go as the winners get a place in UEFA’s showpiece club event.
“A club like Liverpool should be in Europe and we are, so we’re going to have a good go at it this year,” he told liverpoolfc.com.
“This year it’s another chance to get into the Champions League, and that’s our aim this season, so any way we can get into it I’m sure we’re going to try because that’s where we want to be next year.”
Focused on continued improvement
The midfielder has travelled to France with the squad and is aiming to make his first appearance in Europe.
That could happen, with Liverpool currently missing captain Jordan Henderson and manager Brendan Rodgers electing to leave James Milner at home following the loss to Manchester United at the weekend.
Rossiter made his Premier League debut in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal last month, and says it will be a dream come true if he gets another appearance under his belt, but insist his main focus is on continuing to improve.
“It’s a dream come true,” he added.
“I want to show what I can do and hopefully repay the faith the manager showed in me in the Premier League a few weeks ago. I’ve still got a long way to go and I need to keep improving every day.”
