Speaking on the Red Agenda Podcast, James Pearce has delivered a definitive summer transfer window claim about Liverpool and their attack.
Pearce says that, aside from bringing in Ibrahima Konate, the Reds’ big task this summer is to bolster their attack, and he claims that Liverpool will definitely be looking to bring in another forward this summer.
“The big thing is further forward. I think that’s the big takeaway for me. Regardless of what happens in the next few weeks and whether Liverpool get top four or not. They are an elite attacker short if they’re serious about challenging for the big trophies next season, they need to have another option,” Pearce said.
“The drop off in production from Mane and Firmino this season has been so alarming that they need another option up there to ease the burden on Mo Salah, because so much of it will be on his shoulders, so Liverpool will definitely, I’ve got no doubt that we won’t have to endure another season like this one, but there’s work to be done and to a large extent being able to do that work hinges on the financial might that comes with being in the Champions League.”
This is certainly interesting to hear.
With Diogo Jota and Divock Origi acting as backups to the Reds’ brilliant front-three, you’d think they’d be ok, but it seems as though the club are keen to bolster their attack.
To be fair, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino haven’t enjoyed the best of seasons, so it makes sense for them to look for someone new.
Who that person will be remains to be seen, but as Pearce says, it will likely hinge on whether or not the Reds can secure a position in the top four.
