Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Heung-Min Son and some recent rumours linking him to Liverpool.
Rumours started earlier this week and were picked up by some major outlets who regurgitated this story and took it mainstream.
Gold himself has seen these rumours, and he hasn’t exactly put a stop to them.
Indeed, the journalist says that Liverpool have held a strong interest in Son recently, stating that they thought about signing the South Korean this summer if the north London club had failed to make the Champions League towards the end of last season.

Liverpool considered Son
The journalist says that Liverpool thought about signing Son this summer.
“I’ve seen there have been a lot of links with Sonny over the past few days here, there and everywhere. I said it a while ago that Liverpool were considering Son if Spurs hadn’t gotten into the Champions League under Conte. Liverpool were considering potentially last summer going for Sonny, but I don’t think that would have come to anything, I don’t think Spurs would have let him go anyway,” Gold said.
Could be a positive
Could you imagine how this Liverpool team could’ve looked with Son in the side instead of Darwin Nunez?
Son would’ve been a much more like-for-like replacement for Sadio Mane, and he would easily have replaced the goals that the Senegalese winger left behind.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, Antonio Conte’s side did clinch a Champions League spot last season and a move for Son was immediately off the cards – hence why Nunez was signed.
In years to come, this may be seen as a positive. After all, Nunez is a substantially younger player and his ceiling could end up being just as high as Son’s.
While Son would probably make this team better right now, in two or three years’ time, Liverpool may be glad they missed out here.
