Federico Fazio stands in Liverpool’s path of the Champions League final.

Liverpool take on Roma this week in the Champions League semi-final and the Reds will come up against a somewhat familiar face.
Defender Federico Fazio has established himself as a key part of Roma’s defence, impressing on loan last season before signing permanently from Tottenham.
Indeed his spell at Tottenham remains the blot on a stellar career for the Argentine, who has twice won the Europa League.

Fazio was a gamble which didn’t pay off for Spurs, with the defender struggling to adapt to the speed of the Premier League.
Liverpool came close to making the move themselves, with The Express reporting in 2013 that they were considering making a bid to lure him from Sevilla.
Fazio, 31, has made 30 appearances in Serie A for Roma this season and will play a key role for them in the Champions League.

Last year his performances saw him earn a role in the Serie A whoscored.com Team of the Season.
If the Spurs version of Fazio turns up then Liverpool’s rampant attack will have a field day, but he is full of confidence and has looked good alongside Kostas Manolas.
His failure at Tottenham suggests Brendan Rodgers was right not to pull the trigger on a deal for Fazio during his time at Anfield, but the Argentine promises to be a formidable opponent this week.
