Liverpool are considering a surprise move to sign Chelsea and England playmaker Mason Mount with his contract talks on hold until after the World Cup – a player that blew Jordan Henderson away in England training back in 2019.
Mount, 23, is arguably Chelsea’s most-important player. He is the attacking heartbeat of a Chelsea side that is full of highly-rated stars and big names. But the Chelsea academy product is a player that fans can strike a chord with.
The playmaker has come through the ranks to shine in Chelsea’s first team. As managers come and go, Mount is one of the constants in the Chelsea side and really, there is no other player like him in Graham Potter’s side as things stand.
Little surprise then, The Guardian claim that Liverpool want to sign Mount. They may face competition from Juventus, with Mount’s current deal expiring in 2024 – and talks on hold. Henderson raved about Mount three years ago.
“Mason has huge potential, already training for England. He’s got the right mentality,” Henderson said, as per The Metro. “Technically he’s very good. Everyone can see he’s hungry to be a very good player. A very exciting prospect.”

Liverpool considering Mount, he blew Henderson away in 2019
Liverpool have some serious quality in midfield. Thiago is one of the most gorgeous-to-watch footballers in the modern era. Fabinho, despite his form, is one of the best holding midfielders in world football. Henderson, a leader.
But Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are out of contract next summer. They are two of three players put on the transfer list, as per CM. During Jurgen Klopp’s era, if he has lacked a type of player, it is a goalscoring midfielder.
Mount is that type of player. In his 181 Chelsea outings, he has clocked up 69 goal involvements. More than a goal and an assist every three games. Liverpool would be signing a wonderful player if they can convince him north to Anfield.
