Liverpool are now interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara as they seek to replace Fabinho.
Aston Villa star Boubacar Kamara is on Liverpool’s radar with the Reds seeking a new holding midfielder.
That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Liverpool are considering a host of midfield options.
Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are widely expected to leave Liverpool very soon with Saudi Arabian offers on the table.
That would leave Liverpool short in midfield having also moved on Arthur Melo, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.
A defensive midfielder will be a key target with Fabinho leaving a huge hole in the Liverpool engine room.
Kamara is now named as one of Liverpool’s key targets alongside Romeo Lavia, Kalvin Phillips, Ryan Gravenberch and Sofyan Amrabat, as well as Crystal Palace ace Cheick Doucoure.
Villa only signed Kamara for free from Marseille last summer but will likely command a major fee for the Frenchman.
Kamara started 21 Premier League games and looked like a very impressive holding midfielder when injuries weren’t a problem.
Steven Gerrard is a big fan of Boubacar Kamara
One man who is a very big fan of Kamara is Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
The Anfield hero was in charge at Aston Villa when they pounced to sign Kamara at the end of his Marseille contract.
Gerrard was immediately buzzing about Kamara and offered up effusive praise for the France international.
Speaking to Villa’s official website after signing Kamara, Gerrard hailed him as a ‘fantastic player with huge potential’.
Gerrard added that Kamara is ‘robust’ and ‘very consistent’, believing that he could take Villa to another level.
Gerrard wasn’t able to witness that alongside Kamara as he was sacked in October, but the 23-year-old has impressed for Villa.
Liverpool are now keen and may see Kamara as a superb replacement for Fabinho – but can expect to pay a huge fee to make that happen.
