Liverpool are eyeing a shock move to raid rivals Chelsea and lure Mason Mount to Anfield – a player that Jurgen Klopp said in 2019 that he was already worth north of £60million. Now, in 2022, Mount’s price might have increased further.
Mount, 23, is currently with Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar beginning on Sunday. England face Iran on Monday, with Mount a likely starter in midfield at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
But in terms of his Chelsea future, Mount will see his Blues contract expire in 2024. Chelsea are desperate to keep their academy graduate, but The Guardian claim Liverpool and Juventus are keeping tabs on Mount. Talks are on hold.
Speaking about Mount – and Tammy Abraham – back in 2019, Klopp was full of praise. The Liverpool boss said Mount was already worth more than £60m, as per The Metro: “Abraham is now a £60m player. Mount for sure if not more.”

Liverpool eyeing Mount: Klopp said he was worth north of £60million
Ask Liverpool fans what kind of player they would want their club to sign in the January window, and the majority will say an attacking midfielder. One that can score goals, one that can give the Reds that little bit more from midfield.
For much of Klopp’s era, Liverpool have lacked that kind of midfielder. The last example they had of it was Gini Wijnaldum, who left the club for PSG in 2021, and is now at Roma. He was not replaced by Liverpool and Klopp.
Liverpool have a midfield that requires surgery. A couple of players are out of contract, and a few others are in their thirties. So, bringing in a player like Mount – given the style of player, and his age, makes sense. But it is unlikely.
For a number of reasons. Mount is a boyhood Chelsea player. He is a player Chelsea will be desperate to keep and have the finances to offer him a big wage. The chances of Chelsea allowing him to join a direct rival is also unlikely.
