Liverpool are reportedly considering a shock move to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount with the midfielder’s contract talks on hold until after the World Cup – and the Reds could tempt Chelsea to sell by including Naby Keita.

Mount, 23, is out of contract at Chelsea in June 2024. Given he is about to enter the final 18 months of his contract, The Guardian claim Liverpool and Juventus are interested. Chelsea are obviously desperate to keep the England ace.

Liverpool are likely to be in the market for a midfielder. Jude Bellingham has constantly been linked with Liverpool, but it might be that his England teammate ends up at Anfield. Could a move happen as early as January? Who knows.

The Reds need a player now – so it might be they pursue a deal in January. If they do, they could have the ideal chance to sign him and that could be because 90Min claim Chelsea are among the clubs looking to sign Liverpool star Keita.

Liverpool considering Mount: Reds could tempt Chelsea by including Keita

There is no doubt that Chelsea will be desperate to keep hold of Mount. He is arguably Chelsea’s best player. So, keeping Mount at the club will be imperative. He wants to be recognised as one of Chelsea’s best, in terms of wages.

But Mount might also be considering where Chelsea finish this season. Will he want to remain if Graham Potter fails to deliver Champions League football for next season? It might be a consideration of Mount’s, in contract discussions.

If he decides that he would like a move to Liverpool in January – which is unlikely – then Liverpool might have a trick up their sleeve to beat Juventus in the race for Mount. With Keita set to leave anyway, chucking him in a deal may help.

Especially, with Chelsea interested in Keita. So, a player-plus-cash deal for Mount involving Keita – if the Chelsea ace does make the surprise decision to leave, would surely tempt Chelsea to sell him to Liverpool over Juve. Time will tell.
