Thierry Henry praised Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League (7:34pm, September 27, 2021) while analysing Tottenham Hotspur’s defending against Arsenal.
Tottenham suffered a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the North London derby at the weekend.
Nuno’s side conceded all three goals in the first half of the Premier League game.
While analysing Spurs’ defending, Arsenal legend Henry made a note on how Liverpool central defender Van Dijk defends.
Van Dijk said on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports Premier League (7:34pm, September 27, 2021): “You cannot dive in.
“You don’t have to always win the ball back to defend well. Van Dijk is one of the best at doing that. Do not dive in.”

World-class defender
Tottenham were poor defensively against Arsenal, and you can bet that Spurs fans would love to have a Van Dijk in their team right now.
Van Dijk is one of the best central defenders on the planet and is a world-class player.

The 30-year-old – who earns £220,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac – has been on top of his game for a while now, and is likely to be so for the next few years.
Van Dijk plays with grace, reads the game well, and does not go into tackles and challenges without making sure that he will do them.
The former Celtic star is a key reason why Liverpool have won the Premier League and the Champions League in recent years.
