Manchester United central defender Raphael Varane could miss the Premier League match against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday due to injury, according to The Daily Mail.

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane doubtful v Liverpool

The report has claimed that the Manchester United defender is facing a late fitness test.

The £350,000-a-week (SalarySport) Frenchman has been complaining of leg pain in recent days.

United will assess the former Real Madrid central defender after breakfast and then will make a decision on whether or not he will be able to play any part against Liverpool at Anfield in the afternoon.

England international central defender Harry Maguire could reportedly replace Varane in the starting lineup if the latter does not pass the fitness test.

Encouraging for Liverpool

If Raphael Varane does not play for Manchester United today, then it will be a massive boost to Liverpool’s chances of winning the Premier League game.

Varane is one of the best defenders in the world and is a key figure at United.

Maguire is simply not at that level, and neither is Victor Lindelof.

The Liverpool attackers will find it easier to play against Maguire and Lindelof than against Varane.

Yes, Lisandro Martinez will start for Erik ten Hag’s side, but without Varane by his side, he could find it tough to deal with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.
