Liverpool effectively managed to sign Bobby Clark for nothing this summer, according to reports. The Reds pulled the teenager away from Newcastle United.

That’s a potential steal, it seems. A whole host of clubs were also chasing the 16-year-old, who had long looked like a star-in-the-making with Newcastle United.
But as the time arrived to sign a professional contract, things got serious. Clubs had to put money on the table and do their best to convince Clark the move was right for him.
Liverpool beat out several Premier League sides – including Manchester City – to do just that. As for the deal, the Athletic says it was a clever purchase.

Clark stepped into a departing player’s shoes this summer. Ethan Ennis, a highly-rated youngster at Liverpool’s academy, left for Manchester United.
Liverpool recouped £750k for that move, with bonuses potentially pushing it to £1.5m. The Reds then struck an ‘almost identical’ deal to sign Clark from Newcastle.
Liverpool didn’t actually spend any of their transfer budget on this one, then. Though, that may not surprise many fans after a strange and quiet summer.
But how Liverpool secured Bobby Clark is a minor detail. The important thing for the Reds is that they picked up a player with great potential and he’s showing it already.
Clark scored on his Under 18 debut last week and, per the Athletic, Jurgen Klopp is already a ‘big admirer’. You can add the 16-year-old to Liverpool’s ever-growing list of exciting youngsters, then.
Honestly, if Clark ends up being as good as presumed, this will look like a truly remarkable deal in hindsight. Liverpool lost a talented player in Ennis but with a bit of luck, they may turn the situation into a real positive with Clark.
