Trent Alexander-Arnold has praised Ibrahima Konate having been blown away by his performance for Liverpool against Real Madrid on Saturday.

Liverpool were in action on Saturday night as they took on Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The Reds were dreaming of another trophy win to complete a treble but it just wasn’t to be on the day.

Vinicius Junior swooped to score the only goal of the game, sneaking behind Trent Alexander-Arnold to finish from close range.

Liverpool had plenty of possession and some promising openings, but they just couldn’t beat Thibaut Courtois and fell to a 1-0 defeat.

The treble dreams are over and Liverpool will now hope to come back stronger next season.

You can certainly argue that Liverpool were the better side against Real but just couldn’t find the net.

There were a number of impressive performances for Liverpool and one of them came from defender Konate.

Signed from RB Leipzig for £36million last summer, Konate has been splitting time with Joel Matip for most of the season.

Donate nailed down a first-team role by the end of the campaign though and looks primed to partner Virgil van Dijk next term.

Konate was superb against Real, with his pace helping deal with Vinicius Junior as he attempted to exploit space behind Alexander-Arnold.

Konate couldn’t quite stop Vinicius from scoring but this was another outstanding display from the 23-year-old.

Trent Alexander-Arnold spoke about Konate during Liverpool’s open-top bus parade on Sunday, almost getting emotional about his fellow defender.

Alexander-Arnold suggested that words couldn’t do justice to just how good Konate was against Real, admitting that he was proud of the centre back.

“Words don’t do justice to the way I felt about his performance,” said Alexander-Arnold. “I was proud of him – I don’t know why but I’m proud of him!” he added.
