Gary Neville has questioned Trent Alexander-Arnold

One moment late on left Gary Neville scratching his head.

Tottenham sent the ball forward through Eric Dier and as Fabinho cleared the danger, Alexander-Arnold started going forward to attack.

Liverpool didn’t have control of the ball though and Perisic picked the ball up in space on the left with Alexander-Arnold trying to go forward with mere seconds to play.

Perisic’s cross was deflected into Alisson’s grateful grasp but Alexander-Arnold left both Neville and teammates baffled.

This was not the time for Liverpool to go forward, even with Alexander-Arnold playing as a right wing back at that stage.

Alexander-Arnold seemed to completely forget his defensive responsibility at a crucial time, even making no effort to get back in when Perisic picked up the ball.

This was a lack of game awareness and exactly the kind of defensive deficiency that many are concerned about with Alexander-Arnold.

Neville told Sky Sports (93rd min) that he couldn’t believe that he was seeing, questioning just what on earth Alexander-Arnold was doing thinking he could go on the attack.

Neville even spotted Liverpool players such as Jordan Henderson slating Alexander-Arnold for that moment.

“Well honestly, the whole Liverpool team are saying to Trent Alexander-Arnold… look at Henderson! I can’t believe what I was seeing,” said Neville. “Trent Alexander-Arnold was running forward, look at him! What was he doing?!” he added.
