Rio Ferdinand has raved about reported Liverpool target Pedri on BBC One (7:44pm, June 19, 2021).
The former Manchester United defender believes that Barcelona midfielder Pedri, linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window, is a huge talent.
Ferdinand made the comments while analysing why Liverpool midfielder Thiago did not start for Spain against Poland in their Euro 2020 game this evening.
The Englishman said on BBC One (7:44pm, June 19, 2021) when asked if he is surprised at Thiago’s omission: “Yeah, I am, but the emergence of someone like Pedri who has done fantastically well this season at Barcelona, he is a huge talent as well.”
Liverpool transfer speculation
Pedri is at one of the biggest clubs in the world, Barcelona, but that has not stopped speculation from linking the 18-year-old central midfielder with Liverpool.
The Mirror reported in April that Liverpool want to sign the Spain international midfielder this summer.
Barcelona do not want to sell the youngster and actually want to extend his contract.
However, the former Premier League champions have already made contact with the agents of the teenager who has a release clause of £70 million.
Georginio Wijnaldum replacement?
Georginio Wijnaldum has left Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain, and manager Jurgen Klopp needs to sign a replacement.
Pedri could be that player.
The teenager is very good on the ball, can drive the team forward, and can hold his own in the middle of the park.

The Barcelona no.16 can also play in an advanced midfield role and out wide.
The youngster made 28 starts and nine substitute appearances in La Liga for Barcelona last season.
The teenager scored three goals and gave three assists in those matches.
Pedri also scored one goal and gave one assist in seven Champions League appearances for Ronald Koeman’s side last season.
