Football website 90Min claim that Mason Mount would prefer to stay at Chelsea and sign a new contract, but wants a wage that reflects his importance to Graham Potter’s side – amid interest from Liverpool ahead of the summer window.

Mount, 24, has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge. A move away from his boyhood side is a real possibility given Chelsea’s form recently. The club look like they will be without European football next season.

The England star has been regularly linked with Liverpool and the Reds are keen, even more so given his contractual situation. That, and Chelsea may be without Europe next term. Rudy Galetti said he is an alternative to Jude Bellingham.

Now, 90Min reveal Mount’s stance – whether he wants to go, or stay at Chelsea. It is claimed that he wants to remain at his boyhood club, but only if he is given a new deal at Chelsea that reflects his position within the side as a key player.

Mount would prefer to stay at Chelsea amid interest from Liverpool

It will be interesting to see if Mount still wants to sign a new deal and stay at Chelsea, if the club do not qualify for a place in Europe. But of course, this is Mount’s boyhood club and it would pull on the heart strings to leave Chelsea.

Even more so, to join one of Chelsea’s rivals. The Blues are more than capable of handing Mount a wage that reflects his position in the side. A player that Stuart Pearce has told TalkSPORT in the past that actually goes under the radar.

An intriguing few months ahead. Graham Potter’s side have the quality to stage a late run and break into the top six. That would strengthen Mount’s desire to remain. Whether the Blues meet his demands, remains to be seen.
