Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of agreeing to a new contract for Roberto Firmino, with the Brazilian international set to sign a deal until 2025.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Anfield cult hero has agreed new terms with the club and will now sign a two-year contract with Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp one of the main figures behind keeping the former TSG Hoffenheim star at the club.

The Premier League manager recently sent out a stern transfer message asking the forward to stay at the club, and Klopp has now got his wish with Firmino on the verge of signing a new contract which will alleviate some worries for supporters heading into the summer.

Firmino’s current contract is one of many in Liverpool’s senior team that is due to expire in the summer, yet the £29m attacker signing a new deal will allow the Reds to focus on other areas of the squad that are in desperate need of evaluation.

Indeed, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all currently set for free agency, and with central midfield a position that Liverpool are keen to overhaul in the first place, offloading this trio could be key to the Reds’ rebuild in the summer, with signing Firmino a wise move.

Liverpool’s squad is currently striking a fine balance between top-four quality and a complete mess, with a major rebuild needed in the summer if Klopp is to take his club back to the top of both England and European football, and signing Firmino to a new contract will do just that.

As we know, the Brazilian has been a staple in the eight years that attacker has been on Merseyside, and with Klopp himself eager to keep Firmino with Liverpool, the German manager getting one of his wishes granted is major ahead of the summer transfer window.
