Newcastle United and Liverpool have now held talks with the agents of Independiente del Valle wonderkid Kendry Paez. The teenager is highly sought-after for his potential transfer.

That is according to 90min, which reports a host of Premier League clubs are now showing an interest in Paez. The 15-year-old has caught the eye of several teams after his showcase campaign at last year’s Next Generation Trophy in Salzburg as his squad reached the final.

Teams from England have inundated Independiente with enquiries over Paez’s situation at the Ecuadorian outfit since the tournament. Los Negriazules have also rejected an array of offers for the midfielder. Chelsea are among the sides to have already made a formal offer.

But up to a dozen Premier League teams are keen on Paez with Liverpool and Newcastle in the chase for his transfer from Independiente. The Reds and Toon have held talks with the Ecuador U17 international’s agents over a potential move. But they face an array of rivals.

Along with Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle, Paez’s representatives have spoken to chiefs at Manchester City and Manchester United. Brighton & Hove Albion are also keeping tabs on his situation with Independiente. While an array of European vultures are also circling.

Liverpool and Newcastle face a high fee for Paez’s transfer from Independiente

Scouts of Atalanta, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, Real Madrid and Sevilla have also tracked Paez in the last six months. Yet Independiente are loath to accept the bids they have received yet.

Independiente are determined to keep hold of the next big Ecuadorian talent. They have also rejected offers worth more than double the £4.5m Brighton paid them to sign Moises Caicedo in 2021. While Paez cannot move teams under FIFA rules until he turns 18 in 2025.

Yet teams like Liverpool and Newcastle have now joined Chelsea in registering an interest in a transfer for Paez with the Independiente gem’s agents. They are eager to snap up the rising talent quickly. But Los Negriazules will demand a high fee for an unproven prospect.
