Raheem Sterling was reportedly game for a second spell at Liverpool last year.
The England international quit Manchester City to join Chelsea in a £48 million transfer.
Since then, Sterling, who began his senior career at Liverpool, has had a mixed stint in West London, scoring six goals and setting up three in 22 games across all competitions [Transfermarkt].
But apparently, the Blues weren’t his first choice.
According to The Athletic, the former Liverpool winger wanted a return to Anfield, where he left in a £49 million transfer to Manchester City back in 2015.
However, the report adds that the Merseysiders were not interested in bringing Sterling back.

If Jurgen Klopp knew then what he does now, he might’ve taken the 28-year-old back.
Liverpool have been without Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota for much of the campaign through injury, both of whom can operate on the left-hand side of attack.
And having sold Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino last summer, the German manager couldn’t afford to suffer an injury crisis to left wingers in the slightest.
So with that in mind, perhaps Sterling would’ve been given more consideration by Liverpool.
Then again, they now have Cody Gakpo in the squad and despite a quiet start to life under Klopp, the Dutchman has the potential and ability to explode for the Reds.
