A select round-up of the latest transfer news relating to Liverpool…
Liverpool coasted to a 4-1 win over Stoke City on Tuesday night, meaning they remain six points behind league leaders Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.
The Reds will now take on Manchester City before January begins, and with Sadio Mane set to head off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal following next week’s game with Sunderland, a new winger will be wanted at Anfield.
Jese celebrates scoring for PSG
Manager Jurgen Klopp should have money to spend, and transfer rumours today surround Liverpool’s hopes of landing a new winger during the January transfer window.
Firstly, Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez told Spanish newspaper La Provincia that he wanted to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Jese during the January transfer window – but can’t compete with clubs like Liverpool, who also want to sign him.
Jese, 23, left Real Madrid for PSG over the summer, but has started just one Ligue 1 game this season, and has scored once in his 12 substitute appearances in all competitions.
Emil Forsberg scores for Sweden against Wales
The Spaniard is now being linked with a January return, but Las Palmas chief Ramirez has suggested that whilst the winger wants to join his side, they can’t afford his wages, before naming Liverpool as one of the teams interested in signing Jese.
“Jese is a great footballer,” said Ramirez. “He wants to come to Las Palmas, but he is owned by PSG and earns a salary that is of his level and that is very high. Liverpool, Milan and Roma want Jese and are ready to pay what he earns. We cannot afford that salary,” he added.
Elsewhere, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet report that Liverpool are also keen on signing Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg, along with Arsenal, Juventus and Roma.
The 25-year-old wide man has starred for Leipzig this season, hitting five goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga, impressing with his close control and superb dribbling ability.
Leipzig won’t want to lose the former Malmo star, but Liverpool manager Klopp could now launch another raid on the Bundesliga, having landed Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan from Mainz, Schalke and Augsburg in 2016.
