Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has stated that he ‘never made any promises’ Liverpool transfer target Sofyan Amrabat could leave this summer.

The 26-year-old has been highly in demand around Europe following his superb efforts for Morocco at the World Cup.

Amrabat helped his nation reach the semi-finals in Qatar as the all-action anchor of Walid Regragui’s Atlas Lions engine room.

Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat has transfer interest from Liverpool

Liverpool are one of the clubs with an interest in Amrabat’s transfer from Fiorentina. 90min reported earlier in April that the Reds were considering a move.

Anfield chiefs have kept tabs on Amrabat in view of a transfer to Liverpool since his superb displays in Qatar.

Reports by Foot Mercato back in December claimed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp met with Amrabat’s agent to discuss a transfer.

In the end, Amrabat came closest to joining Barcelona only for Commisso to snub the deal.

Amrabat pushed Fiorentina to accept the Camp Nou natives’ offer of a loan with a €35m (£31m) option to buy rising to €40m (£35m), Sport Mediaset reported in February.

Commisso’s refusal to let him go led to reports by Calciomercato in February that Amrabat has a verbal agreement to leave Fiorentina from June.

Viola general manager Joe Barone and Amrabat reached an agreement that Fiorentina will consider a transfer to ease tensions arising from his move to Barcelona falling through.

Or so it was thought, with Commisso now rubbishing suggestions of an agreement for the 46-cap anchor to leave.

“I’ve never made any promises,” Commisso noted, as quoted by TuttoMercatoWEB. “I can’t tell you that he will stay here for life but I don’t even know his attorney.

“These are things spread in the newspapers without having first spoken to me. Also because it is Barone and Prade who deal with these things, not me.”

Commisso added: “Let us finish the season. Barone and [sporting director Daniele] Prade are working on this, I don’t want to answer.”

Amrabat is an essential part of the Fiorentina squad, while his efforts have kept Liverpool interested in a potential transfer.

The Moroccan has started in 21 of his 26 Serie A appearances so far this season from 28 potential games.

He has also helped I Viola reach the Europa Conference League semi-finals with a clash with Basel soon to come.
