Italian outlet CMW claim Jose Mourinho and Roma are battling AC Milan for long-term Liverpool target Sander Berge who is still at Championship side Sheffield United – playing a crucial part in the Blades’ push for automatic promotion.

Joining Sheffield United while they were in the Premier League in January 2020, 24-year-old Berge was brought in by Chris Wilder. Sheffield United remained in the top tier that season, but were relegated in 2020-21, Berge injured.

It has been a bit of a nightmare spell with injury, only playing 31 Championship gamess last season. This time around, Berge has managed 18 outings – again, injury an issue. He missed nine league games in a row, starting in October.

So, the 32-time Norway star does have injury concerns. But, he is back and playing once again. Sheffield United sit in second place, nine points clear of third-placed Blackburn. Berge is playing a pivotal role in Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

Recently, Jeunes Footeux reported that Liverpool could act and bring him to Anfield. Rated at £35m, Berge is said to be keen on a move to Anfield. But now, CMW claim that Roma and Milan are also keen on a move, bringing him to Italy.

Berge has constantly been linked with a move for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp is clearly a big admirer of the midfielder, with the Reds said to be eyeing Berge – time and time again. He is in the last 18 months of his current contract.

So, Liverpool could sign Berge – the Reds need a midfielder. Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all out of contract in the summer. Jordan Henderson and Thiago are in their thirties. Berge would solve both issues.

But, may he feel a move to Milan – where the tempo is slower and less physical – could suit his body? It may help him stop getting injuries and a transfer either to Roma or Milan would be exciting moves for the Norwegian.
