Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly willing to sell Joel Matip in the summer transfer window, with AS Roma interested in the central defender.

Jurgen Klopp willing to sell Liverpool defender Joel Matip

According to Forza Roma, Klopp has told Liverpool owners FSG that he is fine with the prospect of not having Matip in his squad for next season.

The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are now reportedly willing to sell the 31-year-old central defender – described as “incredible” by Klopp in September 2021 on the club’s official website – for €15 million (£13.28 million).

HITC Verdict: Time to part company

In our view, it would not be a bad idea for Joel Matip to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Matip has not been at his best this season, and there are signs that the defender is on the decline.

Signed on a free transfer, the centre-back has been superb for Liverpool over the years.

Matip has been very good for the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners, but all good things must come to an end.

If Liverpool get £13 million for the defender in the summer transfer window, then it would be a good deal for the Merseyside when you consider that they did not pay any transfer fee for him.
