Glen Johnson has said that he can see why Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is interested in a transfer involving Adrien Rabiot next season.

It was reported near the end of April that the Reds had scouted the Juventus midfielder, whose contract expires in the summer.

While many strongly believe that the last thing Liverpool need is to pull off a transfer involving Adrien Rabiot, Glen Johnson disagrees.

Glen Johnson backs Jurgen Klopp over Adrien Rabiot transfer

The Frenchman is an extremely polarizing figure.

On one hand, many believe that he is notoriously inconsistent, his mother-cum-agent creates trouble wherever he goes and is merely a failed wonderkid.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Rabiot is viewed as an incredibly complete midfielder who still has a lot to offer to any side, as was on show for France at the Qatar World Cup.

Glen Johnson seemingly falls into the second category as he would like to see Liverpool get a transfer over the line for Adrien Rabiot.

“From what I’ve seen of him on the pitch, then I can see 100% why Jurgen may want to bring Adrien to Anfield”, he told GG Recon.

Johnson continued, “I don’t know the guy personally or what goes on behind the scenes but from what I’ve seen of him on the pitch, you can see that he’s a top player.”

“He’s performed at the highest level for the biggest clubs, so you’d want to sign him for what you see of him on the pitch, but I don’t know what he’s like off the pitch. I definitely believe he’s a player that Liverpool should look to sign.”

HITC View: Liverpool could aim higher than Rabiot

While Glen Johnson is right about Adrien Rabiot having quality in abundance, a transfer for him may not be the best move for Liverpool when taking a quick glimpse at the market.

Khephren Thuram is one of Europe’s most well-rounded box-to-box midfielders, who was reported to be available for £53 million in the summer.

Speaking of all-rounders in the middle of the park, Mason Mount could be set for an exit as well.

With such players potentially available ahead of next season, the Merseyside-based side should avoid making an approach for Rabiot.
