Fabrizio Romano has said that Manchester United and not Liverpool leading in a transfer chase for Kim Min-jae.
The Napoli centre-back has a £39 million (La Gazzetta dello Sport) release clause in his contract, which gets activated on 1st July, but only for a 15-day period.
As Manchester United and Liverpool go head-to-head to secure a transfer for Kim Min-jae, it seems as if the former are in the lead currently.
Manchester United beating Liverpool for Kim Min-jae transfer
The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the most highly-rated centre-halves in Europe this season as the spine in a Napoli side that look set to win the Serie A.
So much so that Luciano Spalletti dubbed the colossus as ‘the best defender in the world’ at one point, as quoted by talkSPORT.
As Manchester United and Liverpool lock horns in a transfer tug-of-war to sign Kim Min-Jae, Fabrizio Romano provided a key update on the situation.

“From what I understand, Napoli are pushing to extend the contract of Kim, but I’m also told that Premier League clubs are attempting it. Kim doesn’t want to be distracted with Napoli, but after this week, we will be more clear”, he said on the Here We Go podcast.
“At the moment, I heard more Man United than Liverpool for Kim Min-jae but let’s see, it’s a big opportunity.”
HITC View: Likely that the player fancies a transfer to the Red Devils
It’s simple: Erik ten Hag’s men are on the up while Jurgen Klopp and Co. look scarily close to the end of a storied era.

Also, Liverpool look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, as opposed to their biggest rivals, which could be another defining factor behind the player’s decision.
