Borussia Dortmund are reportedly unwilling to budge on their €150m (£130m) asking price for Jude Bellingham this summer, leaving Liverpool potentially in a problem situation ahead of the transfer window.

90min claim that the Bundesliga giants will stand firm over their asking price for their star midfielder, with Bellingham expected to be sold this summer for a British transfer record, something that could be out of reach for the likes of Liverpool.

With UEFA Champions League not a guarantee for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, finishing in the top-four could be the defining factor over if Liverpool are able to afford Bellingham, with a £130m transfer obliterating the Reds’ current record fee of £75m for Virgil van Dijk back in 2017.

Given how important a new central midfielder is for Liverpool this summer, £130m could be what the Anfield side have to pay if they’re to sign Bellingham, with Dortmund not budging at all on their asking price for the England international, which could break numerous records.

Indeed, the Premier League transfer record was broken this January by Chelsea in their £107m move to sign Enzo Fernandez, whilst Jack Grealish’s switch from Aston Villa to Manchester City in 2021 for £100m remains the most expensive deal involving a British player.

With Bellingham now set to break all these records, Liverpool will have to hope they can end the season in the top-four, with a Champions League finish the only realistic way the Reds will have the resources needed to pull off a transfer as big as this one.

Bellingham is Liverpool’s main transfer target for the summer, with the midfielder exactly what Klopp needs if he is to add some much-needed energy and youth into the squad that is currently devoided of such factors in the central position. And Dortmund’s asking price should be motivation for the Reds.

As we know, Liverpool have an outside chance of finishing fourth if they can capitalise on Tottenham’s poor form, and with Dortmund unwilling to drop even a pound on their demands for Bellingham, the Reds must use this update as fire to help them claim a Champions League spot come the end of the season.
