Liverpool target Josko Gvardiol has told his agent that he wants to move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, according to El Debate.

Liverpool target Josko Gvardiol wants Real Madrid

The Spanish publication has claimed that last season’s La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners Madrid are interested in signing Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023.

The 21-year-old central defender, who played for Croatia at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, himself wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu and has reportedly told his agent about joining the Spanish and European giants at the end of the season.

Blow for Liverpool

This will come as a blow for Liverpool, who have also been linked with Gvardiol.

90min reported on December 19, 2022 that Liverpool have expressed interest in signing the Croatia international centre-back.

The report added that Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on Gvardiol.

Now, it is very unlikely that RB Leipzig will sell the defender on January transfer deadline day.

After all, Leipzig are in the race for the Bundesliga title this season.

Now, we know that Leipzig do sell their best players.

And if Madrid come calling for Gvardiol and if the defender himself wants a move to the Spanish club, then it is hard to see Liverpool be able to sign him, especially if they have to pay a huge transfer fee and are unable to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
