According to Zambian Football, Red Bull Salzburg striker Patson Daka has decided to reject Liverpool after holding talks with the club.

Daka was on fire for Salzburg last season, smashing 34 goals and 12 assists in 42 games – a simply ridiculous record.

After losing Erling Haaland in January 2020, Salzburg now look set to lose Daka too, but don’t expect to see him at Liverpool.

Liverpool to miss out on Daka

Reports from Daka’s home country of Zambia suggest that the striker held talks with Liverpool and West Ham United.

However, Daka is picking Leicester City because they have offered him more guaranteed playing time, with Liverpool and West Ham rejected.

The Athletic have reported that Daka will cost Leicester £23million, and his blistering pace suggests that he could be Jamie Vardy’s heir.

Would Daka have fit in at Anfield?

Liverpool do need to find young attackers to help Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with all players approaching their 30’s.

Daka’s pace and energy could have been a great fit in Jurgen Klopp’s style of play, and Liverpool love to recruit players from the Red Bull clubs.

Ibrahima Konate, Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Mane himself have all played for RB Leipzig or Red Bull Salzburg, with their style of play clearly similar to Liverpool’s.

It’s therefore no great surprise to see Liverpool go for Daka, and this snub could hurt; not only will Liverpool now have to face Daka in the Premier League, but if they want to sign him in the future, he would cost a lot, lot more than £23million.
