Since Cody Gakpo, the Liverpool transfer news is getting progressively weaker.
Yes, the Reds still need midfielders, but speculation about Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez, for instance, is dying down in a major way.
However, Liverpool have also been linked to signing defenders.
Inter Live reported earlier in January that Jurgen Klopp’s outfit could look at Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakian powerhouse is out of contract this summer and Liverpool are apparently interested in a long-term Virgil van Dijk replacement.

The 31-year-old defender has yet another hamstring injury which is set to keep him sidelined for the moment.
And Skriniar leaving is a very real possibility, according to a new report from Italy.
According to Calciomercato, Inter are already shopping around for replacements for Skriniar in the likelyhood that he will not be signing a new deal at San Siro.
The report adds that the Serie A giants have already offered him the maximum that they possibly can in terms of finances and remain pessimistic about him staying with the Nerazzurri.
This is encouraging if Liverpool genuinely are interested.
Because going by the report, the Italian outfit can do no more to sway Skriniar toward a long-term stay at San Siro.
And if Liverpool are keen, well this will be music to their ears.
