Atalanta have reportedly sent out a clear transfer warning that wonderkid talent Giorgio Scalvini is not for sale this month despite Liverpool intensifying their interest to sign the defender.
According to CalcioMercato, the Serie A side have zero intention of allowing the 19-year-old wonderkid to leave in January unless the centre-back’s €40m (£34m) release clause is activated, a fee few clubs will be willing to match given how unexperienced Scalvini is.
As per the report, Liverpool are ‘very interested’ in signing the Italian international amid growing rumours that Jurgen Klopp’s side are interested in Scalvini, with the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund also chasing the defender.
Scalvini has seen his stock raise considerably this season with the defender becoming a regular starter for Atalanta in Serie A, with the defender making 14 league appearances and playing a key role in the Bergamo side’s quest to return to European football.
Indeed, there’s a strong chance that Scalvini will be on the move in the summer if the centre-back keeps performing as well as he has, and for Liverpool, the Reds will seemingly be at the front of the queue to sign the defender come the end of this season.
With Liverpool set for a huge squad overhaul this year, signing Scalvini as a long-term replacement for the likes of Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk would be quite the move from Klopp. And as a partner for Ibrahima Konate, the Italian could not be any more perfect.
Liverpool must look to sign Scalvini as early as possible
Atalanta might have ruled out Scalvini this January, but that doesn’t mean that a deal can’t be made to sign the defender, and for Liverpool, this is exactly what the Merseyside giants should be doing to ensure they land one of Europe’s most exciting players.
With interest growing around Scalvini, Liverpool need to act fast to sign the defender, which could easily be something as simple as agreeing a deal with Atalanta that will see the centre-back remain in Bergamo until the end of the season, a deal that could appeal to the Reds and the Serie A side.
