Chelsea could be inclined to sell Mason Mount in the summer transfer window as contract talks stutter. The midfielder is a target of Liverpool and other Big Six Premier League sides.

That is according to the Evening Standard, which reports Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is handling all negotiations over Mount’s contract. He is eager to see the 24-year-old put pen to paper on a seven-year deal. But the vast gap in valuations have complicated discussions.

The Stamford Bridge natives have made little progress in convincing Mount to take a lower salary for a longer contract. Boehly points to the lengthy deals he offered Chelsea’s host of January signings as giving greater security. Yet they took around £70k-a-week on average.

Mount, however, wants Chelsea to increase his salary so he is paid in line with some of his England teammates. Despite the 36-cap international being the Blues’ Player of the Season in the past two terms, he is among the club’s lowest senior earners on an £80-a-week deal.

Chelsea are yet to offer Mount anywhere near the terms he wants to sign a new contract. So, Boehly and the Stamford Bridge board may now look to cash in on him in the summer sales. Liverpool and other Big Six Premier League sides are interested in Mount’s transfer.

Chelsea may have to consider transfer offers for Liverpool target Mount in 2023

Liverpool and their elite Premier League rivals will sense a chance to seal Mount’s transfer from Chelsea this summer. Without a new contract, the midfielder will have just one year remaining on his current deal at the end of the season. He last penned new terms in 2019.

The Blues will be reluctant to let him go, no doubt. But they will be equally as loath to risk him leaving for free in 2024. The Portsmouth-born star has started in 19 of his 20 Premier League appearances so far this season. He has also registered three goals and two assists.

Mount also offered four assists through six Champions League appearances after starting in five of their Group E matches. But while Chris Sutton believes Mount is ‘tidy in possession’, he admires the 5 ft 11 ace most of all for his ‘tenacious’ work trying to win the ball back.
