ACF Fiorentina CEO Joe Barone has stated that rumoured Liverpool and Tottenham target Sofyan Amrabat is not for sale this January despite strong interest in the Morocco international.
Speaking to DAZN via Pagine Romaniste, the Serie A official revealed that Fiorentina’s star midfielder won’t be leaving this month amid interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs after Amrabat’s incredible performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Barone said when asked if there will be any major Fiorentina sales this month: “I can now confirm that Sofyan Amrabat and Nico Gonzalez are not for sale. The president, Commisso, already said that. I can confirm the same for both González and Amrabat.”
Foot Mercato had recently reported that Liverpool and Tottenham were chasing Amrabat with Atletico Madrid also in the chase for the midfielder. Yet even with a reported £40m asking price, Fiorentina seem intent on keeping the Moroccan star in Tuscany this January.

Indeed, this news will come as a blow for both Liverpool and Tottenham, who both keen to sign a midfielder this January with Amrabat establishing himself as an ideal candidate for either Premier League side. However, this bombshell update from Fiorentina’s CEO is the last thing the Reds and Spurs wanted to hear.
With just over two weeks of the transfer window remaining, Liverpool and Tottenham are in a race against time to land Amrabat. Yet with Barone making his intentions with his star midfielder known, the English duo could face quite the challenge in the coming days to land the 26-year-old.
Fiorentina should allow Amrabat to leave this January

A World Cup has the potential to inflate a player’s value to heights that will be near-impossible to hit at club level. And because of this, Fiorentina must be looking to sell Amrabat this January even with both the CEO and president eager to keep the midfielder at the club beyond this window.
With an asking price of £40m already, Fiorentina will find it hard to find a buyer who will be willing to match this asking price in the summer, which is why with Liverpool and Tottenham both interested now, La Viola should be smart and cash in on Amrabat this January.
