Liverpool transfer news: Bundesliga club join Tottenham in race for Reds star

RB Leipzig have reportedly joined the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, with Tottenham also believed to be interested in signing the soon-to-be free agent.

According to Bild, the Bundesliga side are keen to bring their former superstar back to east Germany having sold Keita to Liverpool for £53m back in 2018, with the Guinean international failing to hit most of the heights many expected from the midfielder since moving to Anfield.

As a result, Keita is now expected to leave Liverpool for absolutely nothing at the end of this season when his contract expires, and clubs around Europe are beginning to ready themselves for the scramble to sign the talented midfielder, including Tottenham and now Leipzig.

90min recently claimed that the north London side are considering a move for the 28-year-old as Tottenham look to add a Premier League-proven midfielder to their ranks in the summer, with Keita an ideal candidate to fill this role given his five years at Liverpool.

Indeed, whilst interest from Tottenham could be of note for Keita, a return to Germany and to Leipzig could be what really catches the midfielder’s eye, with the Liverpool star not looking like the player he once was since leaving Saxony in 2018.

As a result, interest from Leipzig could be exactly what Keita wants in a summer move this year, with the Bundesliga a division that is perfectly suited to the Liverpool star’s game, and a return could be the ideal move for the 28-year-old in the coming months.

Keita was once billed as the true heir to Steven Gerrard’s midfield throne when Liverpool spent a then club-record fee for the midfielder, yet as we know, injuries and a massive lack of form have all led to the Guinean being one of the biggest flops in the Premier League era at Anfield.

And as a result, a return to familiar ground could be ideal for Keita, with a move to Leipzig something that could spark the magic back into the midfielder’s game and get his career back on track after years of stagnation on Merseyside with Liverpool.
