Inter Milan are preparing to offer midfield stars Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic new contracts to stay at the San Siro, according to Calciomercato, amid interest from Liverpool.

The Nerazzurri believe they concluded their business for incoming summer transfers before the start of Tuesday’s Deadline Day. Now, the San Siro hierarchy are working to secure the futures of their star players, begging with striker Lautaro Martinez.

Inter Milan will hold talks with the Argentine’s agent on Wednesday and Thursday to define the terms of an extension. Martinez is likely to sign a new deal keeping him with the Serie A title-holders until 2025 on a net €6.5m-a-year (£107k-p/w) salary.

Once Martinez has signed, Inter Milan will move to lock down rumoured Liverpool targets Barella and Brozovic, as well. Barella is currently under contract until 2024, while Brozovic is a free agent next summer. Both would earn up to €4.5m-a-year (£74k-p/w) by extending.

La Repubblica reported in July that Liverpool were preparing a €70m (£60m) bid for Euro 2020 champion Barella. But as the Anfield side have operated on a strict sell-to-buy policy this summer, per The Athletic, they have so far been unable to bring him to Merseyside.

The midfield is a key area of concern, though, and Inter Live claim plans are already being made for Liverpool to sign Brozovic if he leaves Inter Milan in 2022. The Reds are also ready to hand the Croatian €7m-a-year (£115k-p/w) if he does not extend his Nerazzurri contract.

It remains to be seen what impact Liverpool’s potential contract offer has on Brozovic’s imminent talks with Inter Milan. Who Inter Live add cannot live without the 28-year-old, and will do everything to see that he extends his terms.

Inter Milan to end Liverpool hope of signing Barella and Brozovic?

Inter Milan agreeing extensions with Barella and Brozovic could spell the end to Liverpool’s hope of signing either. The Nerazzurri will believe they are under no pressure to sell Barella, should the Reds revive their interest.

While Liverpool are only prepared to get serious in pursuing Brozovic if the 63-cap enforcer becomes a free agent. Potentially, then, seeing Klopp miss out on adding a new general to his engine room next summer.

Although much can change in a year, and neither have yet agreed to new terms at the San Siro. Which – for Brozovic – may be worth £41k-p/w less than he could earn at Anfield.
