Liverpool want Max Kilman and have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the Wolverhampton Wanderers defender this summer.

That’s according to reporter Ben Jacobs, who has been speaking to Caught Offside about Kilman’s future.

Jacobs claims that Liverpool will now consider a summer move for Kilman amid claims Tottenham also want him.

Kilman, 25, is a former futsal player who ended up in non-league with Welling United, Maidenhead United and Marlow.

Wolves snapped him up in 2018 and he has now racked up nearly 100 appearances for the club.

A giant presence at 6ft 4in tall, Kilman has impressed in the Premier League and Wolves may soon face a battle to keep him.

Kilman is contracted until 2026 and Wolves even have a one-year option on that deal, so Liverpool will have to pay big money.

Still, after links to Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes, Kilman appears to be the latest Wolves player on Liverpool’s radar.

Liverpool haven’t really had a natural left-footed centre back since Ragnar Klavan.

Virgil van DIjk has been playing there despite being right-footed and has made that position his own.

Still, the modern game has placed a real value on left-footed centre backs in terms of passing angles to play out from the back.

Van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are all right-footed and Liverpool may want that balance.

There have been strong links to Josko Gvardiol in recent times but the RB Leipzig defender will be hugely expensive.

Kilman may well be cheaper and his status as a homegrown player will appeal to the Reds.

The problem is that Tottenham are in a similar boat; looking for a left-footed centre back with Gvardiol potentially too expensive.

Kilman is one of few English left-footed centre backs out there and we could now see Liverpool and Tottenham get into a scrap for the defender hailed as ‘streets ahead’ of Harry Maguire by ex-Wolves man David Edwards.
