Liverpool winger Luis Diaz continues to make a major impact – and Tottenham Hotspur have to feel just a little gutted about his performances.

Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, producing a brave moment of play.

Joel Matip’s ball in behind the Brighton defence found Diaz, but with Robert Sanchez coming crashing into him, Diaz still managed to head the ball into the net.

Mohamed Salah’s penalty sealed a 2-0 win for Liverpool, taking them to within three points of league leaders Manchester City.

Being able to call upon Diogo Jota or Roberto Firmino from the bench just highlighted Liverpool’s immense attacking options right now, with Diaz nailing down a starting role very quickly.

Signed from Porto in January, Diaz has been even better than many Liverpool fans could have expected this early into his Reds career.

That he’s even at Liverpool is a success story in itself for the club’s recruitment team.

Tottenham were desperate to sign Diaz and had a bid rejected by Porto before Liverpool swooped in, hijacked the move and made sure Diaz headed to Anfield.

Liverpool were seemingly planning to sign Diaz over the summer, but Tottenham’s interest meant Liverpool had to act quick or miss out.

Tottenham pivoted to Dejan Kulusevski instead, and the Swede is shining in North London, but missing out on Diaz will still hurt.

Liverpool legend and current pundit Jamie Carragher took to Twitter to react to Diaz’s display against Brighton, stating that he alone could make this season ‘special’ for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Carragher even sent a message to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, telling him thank you for making the move for Diaz as it forced Liverpool into signing him!
