It’s pretty clear that Liverpool need to freshen up their attacking options this summer.

The Reds have recorded a dismal defence of their Premier League title and may not even qualify for the Champions League this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are sixth in the table and Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have both struggled in attack, even if Liverpool’s overall problem stems from a horrific injury crisis in defence.

Even with Diogo Jota fit in recent months, the Portuguese attacker is struggling to replicate the sort of form he showed prior to his injury in December.

Yep, Liverpool certainly need to get another striker during the summer – and Craig Burley has told ESPN that Tottenham Hotspur marksman Harry Kane should be considered.

Kane is on course for another ridiculous season – well, in the individual stakes anyway.

The 27-year-old has scored 31 goals and set up another 16 from 46 games in all competitions but, with Spurs failing to win anything again this season and likely not qualifying for the Champions League, there’s set to be a lot of speculation about his future again soon.

With his 31 goals, Kane has only scored three less than what Firmino has managed during his past three season at Liverpool combined, which puts into context how much better the England international is when it comes to being a classic number nine.

And Burley has suggested to ESPN that the Anfield club break the bank to sign the Lilywhites man.

He said: “I’d go and sign Harry Kane if I could. I’m thinking he’s getting 30 goals a season in that Liverpool team. He’s just a natural finisher, win you a game from nowhere. Everything that Roberto Firmino can’t give you. He’ll give you other stuff – link-up play, work rate, clever flicks – but he’s never, ever, ever going to give you the goal tally like Kane has given them [Spurs].”

Liverpool’s club-record signing remains Virgil van Dijk after his £75 million switch from Southampton in 2018.

But with three years left on his contract and coming into the prime of his career, Kane would command a much bigger fee than that – and potentially even double what the Reds spent on Van Dijk.
