It’s no secret that Fabinho is a massive player for Liverpool – and one pundit thinks the club should get an Everton player to be a covering option.
The Brazil midfielder has been absent for Liverpool since the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
His absence was felt badly in the Reds’ draw with Brighton at Anfield this past weekend – and a club legend claims that he’d love to see an Everton powerhouse on the red half of Merseyside.
Abdoulaye Doucoure has been a fine addition by the Toffees following a £20 million move under Carlo Ancelotti in 2020.
And Steve Nicol has told ESPN that he would happily take the 28-year-old French midfielder from Goodison Park to Liverpool.
He said, when asked about the Reds’ covering options: “The one problem Liverpool have right now is regardless who they’re playing against, they [the opponent] are getting at the back four. I’ll tell you what, I’d take Doucoure from Everton.”
Realistic?
Well, no.
This is never going to happen but, it has to be said, Doucoure has expressed his love for Liverpool in the past.
Before joining Everton, the-then Watford man said to Canal in spring of 2018: “Liverpool is a club that needs no introduction. I was impatient to play there at Anfield, I wanted to feel the atmosphere. For me it would be a dream to play in a club like this.”
Angling for a move to Klopp’s side back then clearly didn’t work.
But there was speculation at the time, to be fair to Doucoure, and ironically, they went and signed Fabinho for over £40 million shortly after those quotes.
Klopp and Michael Edwards obviously only ever had eyes for the big Brazilian.
