Jose Enrique thinks Liverpool should pursue a move for Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount, with the England World Cup star set to enter the last 18 months of his contract. Reports claim that talks between Mount and Chelsea have stalled.
Mount, 23, has become one of Chelsea’s best players over the last couple of years. Given his chance on loan at Derby under Frank Lampard, and then in the Chelsea first team by the same manager, he has become pivotal for the Blues.
Indeed, the 32-time England international has clocked up a huge 181 appearances for Chelsea. An impressive tally at just 23, underlining his importance. Antonio Rudiger, who left for Madrid last summer, said Mount is “phenomenal”.
But The Telegraph report that talks to extend Mount’s £80k-a-week contract have stalled. The midfielder is now off to Qatar, where his focus will be England. As his deal enters the last 18 months, suitors might start to show interest.
Enrique, an ex-Liverpool player and an avid fan on his social channels, picked up on the reports from The Telegraph. He thinks Liverpool should consider a move for the Stamford Bridge star – saying Liverpool could get him on the cheap.

What a signing Mount would be for Liverpool. But even if his contract talks have hit a wall, you would still expect Mount to sign a new deal with his boyhood club. Even then, you would not expect Mount to join a Chelsea rival.
Liverpool are direct competition to Chelsea in the Premier League. Of course, it is a move that has happened before, such as Fernando Torres – in the opposite direction. But Mount is a boyhood Chelsea player. It would sting for fans.
While there is doubt creeping in, you would expect that during the second half of the season, Chelsea and Mount will be able to come to an agreement. No doubt though, that Mount is exactly what Liverpool need in their midfield.
