Jose Enrique has posted on his Instagram story that Nat Phillips will now secure a transfer away from Liverpool after Rhys Williams was recalled from his loan spell at Blackpool.

The former left-back added that it won’t be a loan deal for Phillips, but instead, he thinks the 25-year-old will head for the Anfield exit door on a permanent basis.

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are all ahead of Phillips in the centre-back pecking order, and that’s added to Liverpool’s struggles this season.

Therefore, at the age of 25, with the experience of playing in the Premier League and in the Champions League under his belt, it’s time Phillips plays on a regular basis.

If this is indeed the signal for the all-action defender to leave, then it will be interesting to see what type of club will snap him up.

When Phillips has donned the Liverpool colours under Jurgen Klopp, as touched upon by Enrique, he is someone who has always given ‘everything on the pitch’.

“I believe he is going then if they have called back Rhys Williams,” said Enrique. “It won’t be a loan, it will be a transfer fee.

“He always leaves everything on the pitch, so you can’t ask anything else from him. I wish him all the best.”

PHILLIPS MAKING THE RIGHT CALL

Whilst Liverpool have been all over the shop this season, especially from a defensive aspect, Phillips is still behind a fair few players at centre-back.

Ahead of the Englishman’s possible departure, it wouldn’t be a surprise if, come next season, it’s all change for Liverpool at the back, including the midfield.

Klopp needs a refresh, and new long-term players, so it will be interesting which senior players follow Phillips out of Merseyside because changes are now needed.
