Liverpool will need a sporting director this summer and interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Tim Steidten could make complete sense.

The Reds have seen some upheaval in their recruitment ranks.

Michael Edwards left the club last summer and whilst Julian Ward was promoted as his replacement, he looks to be on his way this summer.

That means Liverpool must find a replacement in the coming months and a few names have already been linked.

One of them is former Arsenal man Sven Mislintat, whilst Monaco’s Paul Mitchell and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krosche have also been mentioned.

Liverpool will be assessing a number of candidates and we think Steidten may well on the radar…

Liverpool moving for Tim Steidten makes sense

Kicker report that Bayer Leverkusen are parting ways with squad planner and head of scouting Tim Steidten with immediate effect.

The news has come as a real shock to many as Steidten has been credited with finding some real talent for Leverkusen.

Piero Hincapie, Edmond Tapsoba, Jeremie Frimpong and Moussa Diaby have all joined Leverkusen on Steidten’s watch and he was even targeted by Chelsea earlier this year.

Steidten is already attracting major interest as Sky Sports claim that ‘two top Premier League clubs’ are trying to land the German.

Tottenham may make sense as a suitor if Fabio Paratici is on his way out but a route to Chelsea is surely closed now.

Moves to Arsenal or Manchester City don’t really add up and whilst Manchester United could be interested, Liverpool really stand out as a destination.

Steidten has unearthed gems for Leverkusen and whilst Liverpool fans want major big-name signings, finding top young talents will always be a keen focus.

We can’t assume that Steidten and Klopp will get along just because they’re German, but links to Mislintat and Krosche have highlighted that Liverpool may add another German.

Steidten is now a name to keep close tabs on for Liverpool, with the 43-year-old already attracting major interest.
