Tottenham Hotspur are in the mix to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah amid strong rumours over a move to join Liverpool.
One of Tottenham’s top priorities for the January transfer window will surely be the signing of a new centre back.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are a top pairing but recent absences through suspension and injury exposed Tottenham’s lack of defensive depth.
At least one more centre back is needed and Tottenham could now look towards the Bundesliga market.
Tottenham Hotspur keen on signing Jonathan Tah
German magazine Kicker now report that Tottenham have joined the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.
It’s claimed that Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in signing Tah having impressed so far this season.
The report notes that, whilst Tah has an €18million (£15million) release clause for the summer, a January exit is ‘virtually impossible’.
Leverkusen sit top of the Bundesliga table and are seriously pushing to beat Bayern Munich to the title this season.
Tah is crucial to those plans and Leverkusen will be without defenders Edmond Tapsoba and Odilon Kossounou for a period due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Tah will be more important than ever in that period, meaning Tottenham face an uphill battle to sign the defender.

Liverpool think they can sign Tah
The mounting Premier League interest will be a blow for Liverpool, who will seemingly have to face major competition for Tah.
The serious injury to Joel Matip means Liverpool are now looking to land another centre back in January.
90min reported over the weekend that Liverpool want Tah and ‘feel a deal could be done’ when the transfer window opens.
Leverkusen’s lack of defensive options in January make that seem a little unlikely but the Reds seemingly had some confidence of a deal.
Tottenham are now posing a threat though with Ange Postecoglou and co ready to battle Jurgen Klopp for Tah’s signature.
