Liverpool and Manchester City target Denis Zakaria is keen on a move to England and is all but certain to leave Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, as reported by Sport1.
The impending appointment of Xabi Alonso as Marco Rose’s replacement may have sent a ripple of excitement through the Borussia Park dressing room but, while Florian Neuhaus, Alassane Plea, Marcus Thuram and co are intrigued by the prospect of working under a bonafide modern-day great, Alonso will be fighting a losing battle if he wants to keep Zakaria in Germany.
The Switzerland international is out of contract in 2022.
According to BILD, he has rejected the chance to sign an extension too, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool identifying the box-to-box powerhouse as a potential Gini Wijnaldum replacement.
Premier League rivals Man City are also interested in a man who was compared to the legendary Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane by Gladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer (Sky).

Reports coming out of Germany today suggest that, while many of Gladbach’s key players could be tempted to stay as the appointment of Alonso edges closer, even the arrival of a World Cup and Champions League winner won’t be enough to convince Zakaria to sign on the dotted line.
What’s more, the 24-year-old appears to have his heart set on England.
Could he follow in Alonso’s footsteps with a move to Anfield?
