Liverpool return to Champions League action tonight as they host Ajax at Anfield, in what is now a crucial game after losing to Atalanta last week.

The Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways, especially after their frustrating 1-1 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s focus will of course be on his own team, but Liverpool decision makers may have one eye on Ajax defender Perr Schuurs.

The Mirror reported in October that Liverpool were looking at Schuurs as a possible January addition, as they look for a new centre back.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are out injured for many months yet, and Schuurs was seen as a potential addition that could fill in whilst being developed for the future.

Schuurs rejected a move to Liverpool in 2018 in favour of joining Ajax, despite spending time on trial with the Reds – and Klopp is still thought to be a fan.

Liverpool do intensive scouting on any target, but tonight’s game presents Schuurs with another chance to impress the Reds ahead of the January transfer window.

If he can help nullify the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah, Schuurs will go a long way to convincing Liverpool that he is the man for them.

The 20-year-old has been in patchy form of late, receiving mild criticism in the Netherlands for his performances having featured prominently in the first team for Erik ten Hag this season.

This could be a big night for Schuurs, as he will not only be looking to grab a win for Ajax, but possibly impress Liverpool in the process.
