Liverpool last Virgil van Dijk to a season-ending injury last month, and have been linked with a whole host of centre backs since then.

The Reds have now seen Joe Gomez go down with an injury too, meaning he could miss the majority of the season, with Fabinho also out at the moment too.

Many now want Liverpool to go into the transfer market in January, and many names have been linked with moves to Anfield over the last month.

One of the interesting names is Ajax defender Perr Schuurs, with The Mirror claiming that Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring him to Anfield.

Klopp was allegedly impressed with his display against Liverpool last month, and the Reds could now launch a move for Schuurs in January.

Schuurs spent time on trial at Liverpool in 2018, but joined Ajax instead – and his performances of late have been criticised.

The 20-year-old is still developing, and Kevin Hofland – the former PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord defender as well as the recently-sacked Fortuna Sittard boss – has offered his view.

Hofland has told FOX Sports in the Netherlands that he thinks Schuurs has defensive issues, as whilst he is good on the ball, he struggles with strength and aerial battles despite being 6ft 3in tall – and Hofland doesn’t think Schuurs should be compared to Matthijs de Ligt right now.

“Perr now has a number of matches in which he falls into his trap, and that is defending,” said Hofland. “He sometimes has trouble with that. He is good on the ball, he has a good shot and a good lead-in pass. He is now a few times surprised by strength, phyiscally – that’s something he has to learn.”

“He can defender, but I don’t think he’s good enough to… an aerial duel, for example, he’s really not going to win that. But I don’t think it’s fair to compare Perr with someone like Matthijs de Ligt,” he added, in comments that may just worry Liverpool.
