Sunderland have been taking a look at Liverpool youngster Sean Wilson, but have allowed him to return to Anfield without offering a contract.
That’s according to the Sunderland Echo, who claim that Wilson has been allowed to return to Liverpool without a deal in place.
Wilson, 19, joined up with Sunderland on trial earlier this month and has been featuring in reserve team games for the Black Cats.
Sunderland Under-23’s took on Burnley earlier this week but Wilson wasn’t involved.
The reason has now been explained, with Sunderland ending Wilson’s trial spell and allowing him to head back to Merseyside.
Wilson is primarily a right back but has experience of playing at centre back and even on the left side of defence.
Wilson signed a first professional deal with Liverpool in February 2021 and has been with the Reds since the age of seven.
Previously a regular for Liverpool’s Under-18’s, Wilson hasn’t featured as prominently as he would have liked in the Liverpool Under-23’s this season.
That ultimately means that an exit could be on the cards this summer, with Liverpool more than happy for Wilson to go and play for Sunderland.

Unfortunately for the young defender, Sunderland have seemingly decided they aren’t going to give Wilson a permanent deal.
With the end of the season on the horizon, don’t be surprised to see Wilson turning out for other clubs in search of a contract for next season.
Whether that’s League One, League Two, Scotland or abroad, Wilson is bound to attract interest after his rise in the Liverpool ranks.
Sunderland will now seemingly look elsewhere for new signings this summer as Alex Neil looks to bolster his squad at the Stadium of Light.
