The Belgian is happy for competition in the Liverpool side.

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart looks set to leave the club this week, after being relegated to third-choice keeper at the club.

City’s new boss Pep Guardiola is not keen on the player, initially preferring Willy Caballero and the club have now signed Claudio Bravo from Barcelona.

Hart’s options are however limited.

One team that has been linked with a move to bring him in is Liverpool.

The club signed Loris Karius this summer, but the German is currently injured.

Of course his arrival would also spell the end of Simon Mignolet’s time as Liverpool number one.

The Belgian stopper appeared on Goals on Sunday this morning and made it clear he welcomes competition for his first-choice spot:

“I think that transfer speculation is something you have to be prepared for at a club the size of Liverpool

“I just have to work hard on training pitch and put in performances. That’s all I can do

“No I just keep my head down. Like I said, competition for places is good. I just have to be myself and keep doing what I am doing.”

Hart still seems an unlikely option for Liverpool. Karius’ injury will soon heal and the club will then have two top goalkeeper options, a third is not what the club need.

Mignolet will have to fight for the number one spot at Liverpool this season. However, that battle is likely to be with summer recruit Karius and not the England international.
