Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has given his prediction of how he feels the Champions League final between the Reds and Tottenham Hotspur will pan out this Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges will contest their second successive final in the tournament, having shocked Barcelona in the semi-final and also beating the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli and Bayern Munich along the way.

Liverpool enjoyed a similarly bright spell in the Champions League in the mid-2000s, when Gerrard helped his beloved Reds come back from three goals down against AC Milan to draw 3-3 in Istanbul before triumphing on penalties in 2005.

The Merseyside club also reached the final in 2007, a rematch of the Istanbul showpiece in which the Rossoneri prevailed that time, but then 11 years passed before the Anfield outfit reached another final.

In Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium, Liverpool will lock horns with fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who themselves have enjoyed a superb run to the final in which they beat the odds twice – to qualify from the group stage and to overturn a 3-0 aggregate deficit away at Ajax.

In conversation with the official Liverpool website, the Rangers boss said: “Two finals in two years. It’s an incredible achievement. Those people trying to put Jürgen down, I think all you’ve got to say is, before Jürgen came in they hadn’t been to a European final since 2007.

“Now, he’s put this team alongside the top teams in the world. The Madrids, the Barcelonas – you see him beat Barcelona 4-0. It’s a tight game to call, but if both teams play to their absolute maximum, I think Liverpool will just edge it.”
