It looks more and more likely that Liverpool will make a move for Antoine Semenyo during the January transfer window.

Semenyo has impressed in the early part of the Premier League season, catching the eye of several top clubs.

The Ghanaian forward’s contract with Bournemouth includes a £65m release clause that activates in January, which is only increasing speculation about his future.

David Ornstein has reported that Liverpool aren’t alone in their interest, with both Manchester City and Tottenham also keeping close tabs on the situation.

If Semenyo does make the switch to Anfield, it could impact others within Jürgen Klopp’s squad – most notably Federico Chiesa, who may find himself slipping further down the hierarchy.

Fabrizio Romano shared an update on Chiesa’s situation on Friday and while discussing the Italian’s prospects, he also hinted at something significant regarding Semenyo.

January 20th could prove important in Liverpool’s chase for Antoine Semenyo

Any club planning to trigger Semenyo’s release clause next month will need to move quickly, as there have already been reports that Bournemouth want enough time to bring in a replacement.

Romano, speaking on his Italian-language YouTube channel, might have hinted that the clause could expire by January 20th.

“What I can tell you about Chiesa is that the player continues to demonstrate publicly, as do those close to him, that his will is to stay at Liverpool,” Romano said. “He wants to play in Liverpool and stay in Liverpool. ”

“It’s clear that if a month or a month and a half from now – well into January – Chiesa still won’t have found the playing time he’s hoping for, and if Liverpool were to make another signing, a winger like Semenyo who’s a player Liverpool are targeting, in that case we need to be careful about Chiesa.”

Liverpool seek clarity on payment terms for Semenyo clause

While discussing Chiesa, Romano also touched on Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo during his English-language channel broadcast on Friday.

The reporter noted that Liverpool are seeking clarity around the payment terms tied to Semenyo’s release clause.

“My information in this case is that Liverpool are very interested in the situation,” he says.

“They already took some information for the structure of the release clause – £60m plus £5m in add-ons. But Liverpool also wanted to be informed on the structure in terms of payment of the release clause, so Liverpool are attentive.”

If Liverpool end up signing a player like Semenyo, it could seriously limit Chiesa’s chances of playing time. That might be enough to push him towards leaving Anfield this month.
