Liverpool centre back Virgil van Dijk has been quoted by Goal as saying that Leeds United will cause problems this season.
The Reds hosted Leeds at Anfield on Saturday evening, and played out a Premier League game for the ages.
Liverpool ran out 4-3 winners, taking the lead four times only for Leeds to peg them back three times in a stunning clash.
Mo Salah put Liverpool in front with a penalty, only for Jack Harrison to equalise, and when Van Dijk restored Liverpool’s lead, he gifted Patrick Bamford a leveller.
Salah smashed Liverpool back in front, but Leeds just wouldn’t lie down and pegged the champions back again, with Mateusz Klich scoring a superb volley.
Rodrigo then tripped Fabinho to give Liverpool another penalty, which Salah dispatched – and this time, Leeds couldn’t find another equaliser.
Yes, Leeds came away empty-handed, but everybody has been praising the Whites for going toe-to-toe with the champions in their first game back in the Premier League.
Now, Reds star Van Dijk has predicted that Leeds are going to cause problems because of their style of play, giving them credit whilst admitting that Liverpool maybe could have dealt with them better.
“It’s totally what we expected from Leeds. At times we could have done better but the most important thing is the three points,” said Van Dijk. “Leeds are going to cause a lot of teams problems because of the way they play. Credit to them,” he added.
